Question 1 – Ballet

A. Swan Lake
B. The Nutcracker
C. Sleeping Beauty
D. Giselle

Answer: D – Giselle

The haunting ballet of Giselle is the odd one out because it was composed by Adolphe Adam, when the other three ballets were composed by the beloved Tchaikovsky.

Question 2 – Opera

A. Aida
B. Turandot
C. La Bohème
D. Otello

Answer: C – La Bohème

It’s the odd one out because the others involve royalty, political power, or grand public drama, but La Bohème is a love story about ordinary bohemian artists.

Question 3 – Jazz

A. Take Five
B. So What
C. Sing Sing Sing
D. Rhapsody in Blue

Answer: D – Rhapsody in Blue

Rhapsody in Blue is the only symphonic concert work influenced by jazz, when the others are classic jazz standards.

Question 4 – Composer Lives

A. Felix Mendelssohn
B. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
C. Franz Schubert
D. Giuseppe Verdi

Answer: D – Giuseppe Verdi

Verdi is the only composer on the list who lived until 87. Sadly, prolific composers Mozart, Mendelssohn, and Schubert didn’t even make it to the age of 40.

Question 5 – Classical Performers

A. Hilary Hahn
B. Anne-Sophie Mutter
C. Sarah Chang
D. Maria Callas

Answer: D – Maria Callas
